OVERVIEW
UC Product Design Studio III | May - Aug 2025
In tandem with students of the University of Cincinnati's graduate nursing cohort, this studio project had one main guideline: to create or redesign a product or system to benefit the geriatric population. 2-3 industrial design students would team up with one nursing student each, where they would explore and find an area of focus for their project, beginning with multiple phases of design research.
Alongside my teammates Kieran Harris and Keira Ryan, we decided on focusing on music therapy, where we developed and came up with a new way to approach the treatment - Cadence.
Cadence is a small series of devices that unify to accomplish one main goal - to bring the appeal and benefits of music therapy to patients in their homes, increasing accessibility and popularity of a rather overlooked method of therapy.
Special thanks to the University of Cincinnati's nursing cohort and our professor Aldo Barreto for providing us with the guidance and feedback needed to navigate a field of design we all had little experience in.
The Ask:
How can we make music therapy more accessible and appealing to the geriatric population?
